May 11: Change Gears

A great thing about living in SLC is that I can ski and bike in the same day.

A quick tour in the morning.

Followed by 20 miles on the bike.
(Notice the snow in the background.)

The descent was cold.

I'm working on a new camera rig. The results aren't great, yet. From the following frames, I learned a lot about what I need to improve.

The focus slipped. The shutter speed was too fast (not enough motion blur). The composition is too centered....
I can fix all of that with tape, aperture, and geometry. A bit more practice and I'll be able to get some interesting shots.
(Some nicer light wouldn't hurt either...)

The next challenge is to ride 25 miles to Snowbird (+4000' gain), ski a few laps, and ride home.

Feb 16: Oregon Recap

In June, I rode my bike down the Oregon Coast with Nate and Kimber. Here are are few images from that trip.
And this one is my favorite. 'Stick Figures.' It is a perfect representation of how the three of us worked together to keep the trip fun and balanced.

I also edited some video and I'm finally ready to post it.

July 31: Snap Shots

I'm working on a variety of projects now:
An ad campaign for a ski company.
A promotional book for a pool company.
A documentation/submission for a textile artist.

I've also been traveling and riding my bikes. I've taken a break from hauling a heavy pack, so here are a few point'n'shoot full auto snap shots. (unedited)

The road to CA last week.

The road home. Vanessa snapped this one.

Mill Creek Canyon, overlooking the valley.

East Canyon, a great road for cycling. And it's freshly resurfaced!

It also has a steep MTB route. Watch out for deer on the white-knuckle descent.

I'll try to get some images up from this week's studio shoots.

April 27: Get Fit

I've decided to tour the Oregon coast by bicycle. I'll start in Astoria and ride 400+ miles to Crescent City.
There's a lot to do before I'm ready, including getting fit, organizing gear, planning the route, etc.

I've ridden 120 miles this week, 20-30 miles at a time. I've done a mix of flatland cruising with the aero-bars and steep mountain climbs. The Oregon coast will demand that I can handle a varying pitch.

A friend also directed me towards this great site for tracking my rides.
www.mapmyride.com

Here's my flatter cruising ride from yesterday.
26 miles, with 1000'  total ascent.

Here's my steeper ride from Sunday.
35 miles with 3050' total ascent.
The last 2 miles are about 7-9% grade. (There's also a lot of snow up there at 7500'. The descent was rather cold.)

I've calculated the routes and profiles for the Oregon coast ride, broken into 40-60 mile increments. There's nothing as hard as the above ride, but I'll be hauling my camping gear and clothes. There are a couple big days, ~50 miles and ~3000' ascent. Yikes!

Wish me luck.
